FANG CEREMONIAL SPOON
Ceremonial Fang anthropomorphic spoon from Gabon, Central Africa. Traditional Fang figure with a crested hairstyle, domed forehead, hollowed out face with pronounced nose and mouth. The prominent shoulders lead to a lower body that is elegantly carved into a spoon shape.
Anthropomorphic spoons are found frequently in African art. Although used for ritual purposes, the spoon is also indicative of social status.
