Description
Chives – Icelandic
Allium schoenoprasum – Approx. 200 seeds.
This traditional cultivar was collected in Pálsson, Reykjavik, by the Nordic Genetic Resource Centre. Chives are a hardy perennial that make a wonderful addition to any garden. They produce fresh leaves each spring and vibrant flowers in summer, which are highly attractive to pollinators. Harvesting regularly encourages regrowth.
The harvested leaves and flowers can be used raw as a garnish for soups and salads, providing a mild onion flavour. The flowers are also edible and make a unique addition to dishes.
Growing Info.
Sow several seeds into modules or small pots from March and plant out after 6 to 8 weeks. Plants will form clumps which can be harvested several times throughout the year.
Tips: Plant these close to your kitchen for easy access to a fresh garnish.
